This year's event carrying the theme "A Lucky Modern Buddha Belly," featured 14 world-renowned chefs, two master sommeliers and almost a dozen winemakers who tapped their inner Zen. Each participant plated or poured that which brings them the utmost in happiness, plentitude, and wisdom of contentment.
This year's Hawaii Food + Wine Festival featured an astonishing array of talent — restaurateurs, winemakers, mixologists and celebrity chefs. Names that regularly fill the airwaves on The Food Network (and elsewhere) included: Cat Cora, Hubert Keller, Nobu Matsuhisa, Nancy Oakes, Charles Phan, Andrew Sutton, Art Smith, Ming Tsai, Michael Voltaggio, Christina Tosi, Alan Wong, Toshihiko Yoroizuka, Jason Fox, Dean Fearing, Tetsuya Wakuda and more.
All-star winemakers gave guests an opportunity to sample wares from Jim Clendenen (Au Bon Climate, Santa Barbara), Mark Tarlov (Willamette Valley, Ore.), Schatzi Throckmorton of Behrens & Relic, St. Helena and Paul Furst from Germany, just to name a few.
Master Sommeliers Richard Betts (Betts & Scholl, My Essential Wine, Saint Glinglin, Sombra Mezcal) and Joseph Spellman (Justin Vineyards and Winery) walked attendees through nuances of what they're sipping that evening.
