Oahu Shrimp Trucks

The best shrimp is mobile

When our staff directs you to the shrimp trucks, go. Understand that there could be a long line (even on a weekday). Also understand that the mouth-watering meal is completely worth it. The service moves at a snappy pace and the picnic tables stay full. Bring cash (plates run around $13).

What We Love:

  • Coconut shrimp from Macky’s with fresh pineapple
  • Giovanni’s succulent shrimp scampi
  • Savory garlic prawns from Romy’s Kahuku Prawns & Shrimp

Giovanni’s Shrimp Truck

The line is long, but we repeat: The wait is worth it. The lemon butter shrimp takes a few minutes longer (it’s made-to-order in front of you). The garlic shrimp is dotted with substantial chunks of garlic. The shrimp scampi is a good bet, too. The spicy shrimp is not for meager palates (you’ve been warned). Offerings are available as half-plates (six shrimp) and full plates (12 shrimp), and rice is served to soak up the love and goodness Giovanni’s puts into every sauce.
Giovanni’s Shrimp Truck is famous for delicious scampi piled high with garlic.  66-457 Kamehameha Highway, Haleiwa

Romy’s Kahuku Prawns + Shrimp

The fuss at Romy’s is about its Kahuku-grown shrimp, large, juicy and served with locally-grown sweet corn, salad and the standard “two-scoop rice.” Shrimp and prawns are prepared with butter and garlic, sweet-and-spicy, fried or steamed. Romy’s also offers sunfish fried golden-brown with a spicy soy sauce. You’ll appreciate the new picnic tables tucked under a tent and a sink for washing up after your meal.
Romy’s Kahuki Prawns & Shrimp Inc. cooks prawns and shrimp live to deliver the juiciest taste of local culture. 56-781 Kamehameha Hwy, Kahuku

Macky’s Sweet Shrimp Truck

The line at Macky’s moves fast (a five-minute wait is standard). But the garlic butter (and lemon pepper) shrimp are favorites, and the coconut shrimp often sells out. Macky’s shrimp are large, with a split shell to make them even easier to enjoy, and extra sauce poured over your rice delivers flavor even after you devour the shrimp. Throw in an Italian-dressing salad and slice of fresh pineapple. Not into seafood? Try the flavorful pork ribs. And don’t be surprised to see a rooster or hen roaming the premises.
Macky’s Sweet Shrimp Truck blends up a special seasoning that makes it a local favorite. 66-632 Kamehameha Hwy, Haleiwa, HI 96712
