Filming & Photoshoot Policy
Media at THE MODERN HONOLULU
THE MODERN HONOLULU is private property and maintains a strict policy against the use of its hotel grounds
(all interior spaces, exterior grounds, etc.)
for unauthorized professional or commercial photography/videography purposes.
(Including but not limited to Wedding, Engagement, Class, Family and Individual Portraits,
Advertising Photography, and Model/Fashion Shoots, Filming, etc.)
Professional photography/videography will only be allowed and authorized by adhering to the guidelines and fees outlined herein.
Unauthorized professional photographers/videographers are subject to immediate expulsion from the hotel property.
Purpose of THE MODERN HONOLULU Filming & Photoshoot Policy
To provide a comprehensive film and photoshoot liaison policy and service,
so that space and facilities at THE MODERN HONOLULU can be used by external media production organizations
as film or photography locations, without disruption or cost to THE MODERN HONOLULU and its guests.
To provide a service that takes into account the complex requirements
of production companies and professional photographers in utilizing film / photoshoot locations,
the physical resources of the hotels and restaurants that might be suitable for their requirements,
and the interests of all hotel and restaurant guests and staff.
To minimize disruption of normal hotel activities.
To provide and control specified access to the hotels exterior locations
and interior locations for commercial production companies producing feature films,
commercials, still photography and general entertainment programs.
To preserve the reputation and public image of THE MODERN HONOLULU and LATHER SPA.
No film location requests or activities will be approved which disrupt the normal activities of the hotel and restaurants.
All photography requests will be reviewed and approved based on occupancy,
availability and content, with appropriate fee schedule outlined below.
* If you are a wedding company, special restrictions may apply.
All filming must be reviewed on a case-by-case basis to determine fee schedule.
ONE area of preference will be granted per photoshoot.
This area and time will need to be confirmed with the operations teams before finalizing the photoshoot.
It is understood this area is permitted but is not a guarantee for exclusive use of the space.

The area will not be blocked off for use of the requestor, and must not be disruptive for other hotel guests.
No major set construction or alteration of buildings will be permitted.
Any set decoration must be clearly specified in writing
and all areas occupied in connection with the filming must be returned to their normal condition.
The production company is responsible for maintaining adequate public and employer's liability insurance against accident,
injury to its employees and third parties, third party loss,
damage and all other risks normally insured against by others carrying on a similar business.
Production agencies' filming locations which require auxiliary sources of power
must use silenced generators and suspend or cover all cables at their own expense.
It is the commercial production company's responsibility to apply for any external filming licenses
required for the surrounding property areas, for example, partial or full road closures.
A program script must be submitted prior to the commencement of filming
so it can be assessed that the filming will not damage the reputation or image of the business.
Neither employees of THE MODERN HONOLULU nor in-house guests are to be approached to appear
in the production unless by prior arrangement.
Fees and other charges
Non-Hotel Guest, No Wedding/Event = $1000.00
Hotel Guest, No Wedding/Event = $500.00
Non-Hotel Guest, with Wedding/Event at TMH = $500.00
Hotel Guest, with Wedding/Event at TMH = $0
Filming = Subject to details; at the discretion of Hotel
- Room only = Subject to current rates and duration of shoot
If filming is scheduled through the night,
there may be an additional night porter charge for a member of THE MODERN HONOLULU team to accompany your team.
Whenever a location fee is being charged,
a ‘Location Agreement' contract will be entered into between THE MODERN HONOLULU and the production agency or photographer.
All arrangements, including the payment of the location fees and evidence of insurance
must be completed at least 14 days prior to the commencement of filming.
Should additional fees be incurred during the filming,
such as refreshments or damage to property, they will be invoiced after the event on a 30 day period.
Cancellations & Exceeding Time Allocation
8-12 weeks prior, then 25% is payable by the Client (for any shoot that requires reserving impacted public spaces)
4-8 weeks prior, then 50% is payable by the Client
2-4 weeks prior, then 75 % is payable by the Client
If cancellation notice is under one week prior, then 100% is payable by the Client
