  • "My stay at The Modern was one of the most wonderful hotel stays I have had.
I have stayed at over 100 hotels in my travels and I must stay The Modern is in my top 3. The Modern is a boutique hotel which I usually avoid because ... More
we have young children which are usually not well tolerated by boutique hotels or their guests. The Modern is a lovely exception. I saw at least 3 other families during my one night stay and all were welcomed, behaving and not. The rooms are exceptionally comfortable. While the asthetic is modern, it is not a harsh, ultra white kind. There are wonderful creature comforts like soft (cashmere?) ombre throws and brightly colored ukuleles. Some decorators remove all funcational items to make it looked modern, but The Modern gets it right by keeping towel racks and clothes lines while still looking clean and uncluttered. Shower only; no tub. The beds and pillows are just right; not overly firm or soft. The headboard is padded for nice reclining. I could not find any aspect that was worn, or needed touching up. It was clean to perfection. I almost wondered if we had a brand new room. Room service was super fast and hot. The menu included haute cuisine as well as kids items. I have included a photo of the "pleasure package" including useful agave flavored items. The tv channel and movie selection was extensive and varied between kids options, cultural interests and current releases. Check in and out was exceptional. I booked for the wrong day and there was no hassel. My kid wanted the ukulele and the gift shop was closed. No problem, they got it for me while we got our bags. The breakfast in the restaurant was divine. The best cappacino I have ever had. My daughters French Toast was deeply flavorful, not just sweet. They rushed our service because we needed to make time to the airport. I mean, could they have done better? Not at all. OK wait. One thing. We stayed in room 1234 and there was some traffic noise. On the twelth floor it was pretty subdued but on a lower floor it could be annoying. I could hear it on a 4 out of 10 scale. Someone laid on the horn for 8 seconds and that was the exception of not annoying. If you are sensitive to traffic, ask for a high floor or just tell them; all evidence is that they'll stop traffic during your stay to make you comfortable.Close

  • "Staying at the Modern Honolulu was a joyous experience. Staff were friendly and helpful at the front desk & around the pool day & night. There were many "bits extra" to enhance the experience. For instance, the awesome saltwater p ... More
ool and fitness center were open 24/7 & that was great for jet-lagged guests. The rooms were beautiful & yes, modern. We loved our roomy balcony, and there really was a good ocean view. We enjoyed eating breakfast by the pool - the Portuguese sweet bread French Toast was my favorite. Wall Street Journals and Honolulu newspapers were available each day, even for late sleepers. The pareo was a nice touch, as a bathrobe would be too hot. Close

  • "I just returned from a week at The Modern Honolulu. I can honestly say it was one of the nicest hotels, and nicest experiences I've had staying in a hotel, in my life (rivaled only by the W in Westwood, Los Angeles). Modern Honolu ... More
lu is a very chic hotel located two hotels down from the Hilton Hawaiian Village. The Modern doesn't have its own private beach, but you can walk next door and access the beach very easily. You might not want to very often, though, because the Modern's pool area is fabulous beyond belief. They have a salt water pool, gorgeous chaise lounges and couches and comfy beds, and yummy drinks; there's even an upper level adults-only pool area for folks who don't like the company of children (but there weren't many at the main pool area anyway). The food's pretty good for a poolside bar, too, and there was even live music (soft, romantic) on Sunday evening. The Modern serves free coffee (Kona, of course!) with organic milk every morning from 6:30 to 9:00 a.m. They valet park your car and bring it promptly when you ask for it. The room was on the smallish side, but it was very well appointed with its own balcony, comfy bed, nice desk and TV, safe, good closet, and beautiful bathroom. The room is a little noisy, but Honolulu is a big city so I expected that. The staff people at the Modern are very accommodating: they even bring ice to your room upon request! Room service was great, too. I highly recommend Modern Honolulu. I will definitely be back! :) Close

and the staff are on hand to make your stay an exceptional one.
We originaly booked The Hilton Hawiian but changed it to The Modern as the size of the hotel makes your stay more personal. The pool is a good size with plenty of beds and staff are always on hand with food and drinks whenever you need them. When we needed to book trips the staff were very helpfull and arranged things straight away.
The quality off the room We stayed in was better than 5 star with its sea view and location over looking the pool.
Checkin was quick which was great after such a long flight and we were able to relax straightaway.
So if you are ever staying in Waikiki this is the place to stay ,it has everything you could ever dream of. Close

  • "I travel to Honolulu a lot for work (tough, I know) and The Modern Honolulu is my favorite place to stay by far. It has a great location that's close to the heart of Waikiki, but a bit on the fringes, which means it's easy to hop ... More
on the Nimitz Highway and avoid the Waikiki traffic. The staff are amongst the friendliest and helpful I've seen in Hawaii. Truly top notch. I especially like the folks in the Lobby Bar, the front desk, and the valets, who always greet you with a smile. The rooms have a great clean and modern aesthetic (pardon the pun) that doesn't feel dated like so many others in Waikiki. My only criticism is that service at the Sunset Pool is definitely on Hawaii time, so not the best choice if you're really hungry. I've waited 45+ minutes to get food more than a few times, but it is a great space to relax if you're not in a hurry and the staff here are are super friendly as well, even if they can be tough to wave down. • "What beautiful rooms! We faced the apartment buildings, but what a beautiful view of the sunset every night and the wharf to greet us in the morning. (14th floor) We had a beautiful view of the ocean from our room. Night time was ... More
really quiet. Room service was rather expensive. for a basic 3 egg/bacon/toast breakfast for one person. I just popped over to the ABC store across the street and they had an amazing little deli there. The staff were wonderful to us. The rooms are white but with just enough wood accents to make it an elegant room. Very roomy. At night we would sit on the lounge chairs at the pool and just soak in the beauty of the stars and the lights throughout the pool area. During the day the pool area was very quiet and relaxing.

You are steps away from the beach. The Hilton hotel has adorable shops. We loved the live acoustic groups at the Hawiian Village that would begin playing around 5pm. The Hawaiin Village is right after you walk around the lagoon to get to the Hilton. There is one group called Johnny Pirahna and they played 70's and 80's music on Wed. or Thursdays. People were standing all over the place listening to them. We had such a good time.

The mall isn't too far; a 7 minute walk. Just walk across the street to the ABC and stay on that same side of the street and walk towards the mall.

Duke's is a good restaraunt which is on the beach and the staff is very friendly. They also had great music at night.

We went to a great Seafood Buffet. It is almost at the opposite end of the beach by the Pacific Beach Hotel. There is a two story aquarium in the restaraunt and at 10pm a scuba diver and a women dressed in a mermaid outfit popped into the tank and fed the fish. The buffet is huge; seafood, beef, pork, salads and tasty desserts.

You must go to Haunama Beach but it closes at 7pm. Very beautiful. Great snorkelling.
Waimea Valley is a beautiful place to go to, but it's at the North Shore. The North Shore is green, lush with many awesome beaches to snorkel. Sharks Cove was awesome to snorkel. You must buy the banana bread that is sold as numerous roadside stalls. So good! !

Pearl Harbour is amazing. Take lots of water and a hat.

We will definitely stay at the Modern again. Close
