Like a sexy librarian, The Study isn’t what it immediately seems.

It waits demurely behind a wall of books in the lobby of THE MODERN HONOLULU. At 6 p.m. each evening, the bookshelves rotate to reveal The Study’s neutral palette and clean lines, whispers of THE MODERN HONOLULU’s subtle sophistication. That’s your invitation to get to know The Study – a knockout cached in understatement.

  Cocktail tables are barely an arm’s length from endless sectionals, lush ottomans and melt-into-me chairs, but you can always command a seat at the bar – the drinks here are legendary. Try the Fire Across the Sea (The Study’s signature mix of wasabi and Sriracha with Grey Goose vodka and Japanese horseradish) or the Wuthering Heights, mixologist Tony Abou Garmin’s epic of Sailor Jerry spiced rum and orange curaçao served on the rocks and enhanced by fresh-pressed lemon and a cinnamon-tincture rim.

  Naturally, The Study serves all manner of beer, wine and bottles (during this “reverse” Waikiki happy hour, Monday through Wednesday from 10 p.m. to 2 a.m., look for featured beer, wine and bottle specials). But THE MODERN HONOLULU Executive Chef Scott Toner tempts with a dining menu custom-designed for The Study, featuring 100% organic and largely local ingredients. Sample the Mini Burger Trio for inventive sliders (including Baby Swiss with wild mushrooms on a house-made pretzel roll); share Pineapple Baked Alaska for a taste of Toner’s Hawaiian influences (via coconut crumble, lychee and Prosecco gelée). Echoing the uncommon vibe of THE MODERN HONOLULU, this artisanal approach to food and drink elevates The Study among bars in Honolulu.

Thursday and Friday evenings bring live, local music beneath The Study’s low light; Ice Cream Sundays, high-profile happenings among bars in Waikiki, bring the DJ. Drift in between 10 p.m. and 2 a.m. for sweet sounds courtesy of DJ Anit and frozen indulgences.
