Filmmaker Etienne Aurelius Premieres New Project at THE MODERN HONOLULU
Join us for this exclusive event August 11, 2017
The surf scene makes its way back to THE MODERN HONOLULU for the world premiere of filmmaker Etienne Aurelius’ newest venture – Shadow Company.
Shadow Company, directed by Aurelius and narrated by Sal Masekela, comes on the heels of Aurelius’ recent Wave of the Winter film, which also premiered at THE MODERN HONOLULU.
His new film follows the exploits of Billy Kemper, Koa Rothman and Nathan Florence and their hard-earned badges of honor from waves of the winter to waves of the year to back-to-back Pe’ahi Challenge wins.
In addition to the film premiere, the evening features live music from Taimane Gardner and an after-party at ADDICTION Nightclub.
Taimane translates to diamond from Samoan and perfectly reflects the different facets of her nature. Whether delicately finger-picking through Bach or radically ripping through Led Zeppelin, Taimane has the ability to morph genres – from classical to rock to flamenco – and stretch her instrument far beyond the familiar melodies of Hawai`i, where she grew up. With the fierceness of a rocker, and the grace of a dancer, Taimane and her music are wowing ever-larger audiences. She lights up rooms wherever she goes, sparkling like the diamond that she is.
Hosted at THE MODERN HONOLULU, August 11, the premiere is free* and open to the public
- 7 p.m. – Doors open
- 8 p.m. -- Live music performance by Taimane Gardner
- 9 p.m. – Film Premiere

Shadow Company is produced in partnership with Vans, Vans Surf, Reef, Quiksilver, Surfline, Progenex and Kualoa Ranch.
